Artwork Story
For this artwork, I decided to "square off" the circle, by creating intricate corners to cradle the circular design. This painting is named "Squaring of the Circle". The idea of "squaring a circle" is a topic found in several parts of history and culture; throughout ancient texts, in geometry and poetry, the work of Carl Yung, Morrocan and Islamic tiling, and in the traditions of Buddhist sand paintings. “The ‘squaring of the circle’ is one of the many archetypal motifs which form the basic patterns of our dreams and fantasies. But it is distinguished by the fact that it is one of the most important of them from the functional point of view. Indeed, it could even be called the archetype of wholeness.” - C.G.Jung
